Medical Student Senate

The Medical Student Senate (MSS) represents the medical student body to the faculty and administration of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. MSS also organizes social, charity, and educational activities for the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

All medical students are conferred membership to the Medical Student Senate upon matriculation to the JHUSOM. Four representatives from each class are elected annually to Medical School Senate, which is intricately involved in promoting student-faculty relations, student activities, recreational and academic issues, and advocating for the best interests of the student body as a whole. Elections are held in the spring, with the exception of fall elections held for the first-year class. Representatives from each class serve as student members of committees with faculty and administration that deal with various issues at the JHUSOM. These committees include:

  • Undergraduate Medical Education Policy Curriculum Committee
  • Genes to Society Integration Committee
  • Numerous other Hospital Groups
  • Various educational taskforces and workgroups

The Medical Student Senate, in partnership with the Office of Medical Student Affairs, coordinates the funding of student groups in the School of Medicine. One MSS representative is elected to act as the treasurer of the Executive Board each year and oversees these activities.

MSS representatives also help coordinate various social events by class and charity events for the entire School of Medicine. MSS also plans events in partnership with the school such as:

  • White Coat Ceremony
  • Monte Carlo Night
  • End of Genes to Society Party
  • Match Day
  • Graduation Gala
